Happy New Year 2013

Well, time has passed since the last mortifying incident at my local. Sometimes I think this place is more trouble than good. Thanks to the offerings they bring, my wallet is depleted and my belt is running out of holes to hold up my jeans.

The folks with which I had a run in last week, have gotten a few nasty words from my side. Also the management here have treated me with nothing but respect, understand that I am of the same industry and have no desire to raise a ruckus over the drunken antics of a loser patron.

It is a new year and I was jolted alive with disturbing news from a friend that he is in hospital, open heart surgery to be done in a few days. Luckily he is in good spirits and always the relaxed happy-go-lucky personality, taking it in stride, keeping me relaxed while he sends me texts as if he were at home in his lay-z-boy. I glance across the bar at the people that made me feel so inadequate as a human being and wonder why the good people always end up with the shitty plight like my friend.

Is it because they struggle every minute with their lives trying to live themselves, thus Khama believes their struggle is too much? Could it be the person without stress, enjoying their life, seemingly flawlessly, is bound to be I that hospital bed right now? Khama is harsh if this is true.

I am hoping to get out of this rut I am in, possibly dropping g this bar for a bit or visiting less, but I need to decide why exactly. I feel I need a change, or maybe just some peace from the noise around me. I want the sun to come back, which is my major motivation to get outside. Regardless of the weather, I gotta get outside....

Check in later with the details on tomorrow.

Christmas Dinner 2023

Christmas dinner is not a challenge for me, unlike most people all over the world. Depending on your main dish selection and the corresponding side dishes, the difficulty level can differ for anyone, but I always suggest keeping it on the simple side so you can spend more time enjoying yourself than living in your kitchen. It was just my partner and me this year, keeping it a bit low-key and quiet. He just started a new job and didn't want to go too crazy, doing a little extra studying during the festive days off. His decision was leg of lamb, which I was happy with as turkey for two is either too much trouble or not special enough if using turkey thighs for your main dish. Using my kitchen and cooking tools (and skills) was a great decision, making our neighbourhood festivities available while also having time to cook. After visiting the local pub and enjoying a few rye and cokes (beer for him) we tried to gather an appetite, filling up on Christmas brunch with my family earlier i...

Heat Waves and Hot Flashes: Mid-Fifties As A Woman

Sitting at the bar I frequent  often, cold pint in front if me, I chose to leave my hot apartment to find some air conditioning. The last few days have been hot in Vancouver and my local has been enjoyable with air conditioning keeping us all from melting away. Walking down here I noticed the temperature was 28c and was looking forward to a little break from the heat. Of course, after a few days of feeling a bit cold in here, the AC is not working. It can be hit and miss as they keep the folding sliding windows open for air flow, but it does end up over taxing the AC system. Sitting on non-cloth seats - it can get a bit sticky in here.  Earlier today I was on a hot bus, of course I catch the bus without AC and I could feel the sweat trickling down my back. Stick to the seat is also a lovely feeling, possibly leaving a small sweat streak, like you would find on seats on workout equipment in a gym. Yuck. The worst part of it all is when you are still suffering from h...

And Just Like That ...

Like a cozy sweater, I wrapped myself in the past, took a deep breath and pushed play. I knew what was coming, and I was already familiar with the first episode of its release, but knowing I had full access to every episode made the experience more personal. There was no familiar theme song as it wasn't a reboot, but it had the feeling of something you know like the back of your hand, like that smell that brings you back to your grandmother's home or the taste that transports you to another time in your life. It was almost like the feeling returning to a numb limb, with which I have had recent experience, two carpal tunnel surgeries later. My brain, or rather my soul, was awakened from the fog bathed in for what seemed like forever.  I decided to use my time back in New York with ladies from my past. Although fictional, they definitely were part of my life, playing out storylines side by side with my life on the tube weekly. Having them back, 20 years later, aged and lived i...
